Project Engineer – Medical Device
West Sussex - £30,000 - £40,000

Our client is a well-established manufacturer working in the Medical Devices sector, this company has been established within in its market for a long time and is currently launching multiple new products year on year.

Working as an integral part of the Research & Development team, this is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a good level of previous experience working in the medical device industry to enhance their career as a Project Engineer and improve the vision of millions of patients worldwide through the development of innovative new products.


  • Project manage cross-departmental project teams to deliver new products to market, whilst adhering to agreed quality standards, project deadlines and project budgets
  • Provide engineering support for new product and process introductions, ensuring that all activities are completed and documented in accordance with the company’s Design Control procedures
  • Manage design control activities such as risk analysis, product specification, test methods and process development to successfully bring products through Design Verification & Validation to Design Transfer
  • Ensure that all products/processes are developed in compliance with regulatory requirements/best practice
  • Critically assess company products, processes and systems in order to improve quality and efficiency
  • Regularly interact with customers (internal and external) in order to better understand their needs (both known and unknown)
  • Maintain a high standard of professional and technical knowledge by attending educational training/workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as required


Experience / Skills



  • Degree in science / engineering or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience of leading and supporting project teams in the timely and cost-effective completion of design and development projects, through activities such as project facilitation, project documentation including design and development plans, risk analysis and verification/validation activities
  • Proven track record of delivering successful projects
  • Self-starter with demonstrated efficient work methods and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced agile environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - able to express ideas and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Innovative thinker - should be able to envisage new and better ways of doing things
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to plan, organize and implement concurrent tasks
  • Experience of creating technical drawings ideally using Solidworks
  • Competent in key Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project)



  • Experience working to medical device regulations and the medical device directive (ISO13485, FDA QSR 21, CFR 820 etc.)
  • Involvement in the design and development of truly innovative products and/or processes
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, product and process design
  • Knowledge of product design for high volume injection moulding and design for manufacture and assembly
  • Sealing / packaging design for medical devices
  • Project Management qualification (e.g. APMP)
