Redundancies

It is not unusual these days to find yourself in a position where career change becomes a necessity rather than a choice. Don’t panic – this is an opportunity to take stock and make considered decisions before making your next move.

Remember it is your job that is being made redundant not you.

  • Try to remain positive
  • Use your remaining time in your job wisely
  • You are entitled to apply for positions and attend interviews whilst still with your current employer
  • Update your CV
  • Consult a professional recruitment agency
  • Consider temporary or contract work

Temporary and contract workers are often used as an interim solution to cover sickness, maternity or holidays. However many are now employed on longer term projects. Some employers take temps on as part of a 'working interview' providing both parties the opportunity to assess the position before committing long term. Temporary and contract work can also build a broad base of experience from exposure to a wide range of sectors, management styles and business practices. Some opt to contract or temp permanently finding that with good organisation and a little luck flexible working means that family commitments are easier to deal with, studying for further qualifications can be undertaken and even longer holidays can be enjoyed.

With so many options available to you redundancy can be the beginning of the rest of your life!
